Drive Best-Practice, Reduce Utility Strikes, Improve On-Site Safety
Radiodetection Ltd., a Bristol-based global manufacturer of products to detect buried utilities, announces the availability of its C.A.T Manager Online system.
Radiodetection’s popular gC.A.T4 Cable Avoidance Tools are widely used in the UK, Ireland and other countries to avoid cable strikes when excavating. Several years ago, Radiodetection introduced on-board data-logging in response to the growing focus on reducing cable strikes. Cable strikes are a serious problem, potentially causing harm to workers as well as damage to the underground infrastructure. Logging the data from cable avoidance tools allows companies to monitor and improve the on-site performance of their teams.
C.A.T Manager Online adds value to this data by using a secure cloud-based system to store data from all of a company’s gC.A.T4 locators, and making all the data accessible anywhere, any time to management and safety teams. The system is always on-line, and data transfer from the locator to the cloud is achieved using a mobile app without the need for any operator intervention. The data can be transferred in near real-time, and customers can use this to check the quality of the locating work before teams leave the site.
Tony Rush, Radiodetection’s worldwide marketing director, adds: “In our extensive customer trials of this system, we have already seen it delivering tremendous benefits. For example, one of our leading early-adopter customers achieved a month with zero cable-strikes for the first time in its experience.”
C.A.T Manager Online comes in two versions: a free version offering 90 days’ data storage; and a paid-for version that offers indefinite data storage as well as enhanced data analysis, support and the ability to structure information by teams and accounts.

Use of the mobile apps is free, but does require a data connection. Access to the cloud-based system is via a standard web browser. All data storage and data transfer is secure, and handing of personal information meets or exceeds EU data privacy regulations.
C.A.T Manager Online system is designed for use only with Radiodetection’s gC.A.T4 cable avoidance tools; these record positional data using an in-built GPS device.
