C.A.T4® and Genny4® products provide a comprehensive range of Cable Avoidance Tools helping professionals to drive best locating practice, reduce the number of cable strikes, and dig more safely. 

Our C.A.T4 and Genny4 training course provides candidates with a basic understanding of the reasons for using cable locators and to provide candidates with a thorough familiarisation of the C.A.T4 and Genny4 series within a training environment.

This is achieved by both theory and practical sessions lasting a total of approximately 4 hrs. Candidates will be asked to complete a short multiple choice exam at the end of the course. Courses are for up to 8 delegates and can be carried out either at our Bristol office or on at any UK location with appropriate facilities.

Part 1 Theory

Part 2 Practical

Delegates will have practical instruction on all of the activities listed below. Delegates will then have the opportunity to practice each of the activities under the supervision of the trainer.

  • The correct method for locating and pinpointing services in Power and Radio modes.
  • The correct method for use of the C.A.T4 in avoidance mode.
  • The correct method of using the Genny4 in a both connected and induction modes.
  • The correct method for use of the signal clamp.
  • The correct method for nulling out of a shallow service.
  • The correct method for carrying out an induced sweep.
  • The correct method for using the C.A.T4+ for depth estimation when using a Genny4.
  • The correct method for use of a Sonde.
  • The correct method for using the C.A.T4+ for depth estimation when using a Sonde.

Delegates will also have demonstrated by the instructor the following:

  • The correct method for checking calibration information.
  • The correct method for switching off alerts and warnings.
  • The correct method for carrying out a user functionality check.
  • StrikeAlert
  • Dynamic overload protection.
